Thankful

Despite the challenging economy, we are having a good year. We recently celebrated our 95th year in business and are one of the oldest family owned dealerships in all of General Motors. It was a great pleasure to see so many of our old friends at our Open House last month. We have much to be thankful for.

We really are a family at Reynolds, and one thing we believe in strongly is our involvement in our local community. Recently we sponsored an event in Azusa called the "Heart of Grub". It was put on by a local faith based initiative called Cory's Kitchen, which is an community aid organization that collects food donations and shares their food, their faith, their care, and their compassion with those in need. Last year alone they estimate that they assisted over 18,000 people.

We received a very touching letter thanking us for our assistance, which we are sharing with you here. It touched us very deeply. In this time of thanksgiving, if you find yourself able to share some of your good fortune, please consider helping them with their mission.

Their website is here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all from Reynolds Buick GMC.

Come Down to the Reynolds Open House Event to Celebrate Our 95th Anniversary!

We’re turning 95 soon! On Thursday, October 21st, Reynolds Buick GMC invites one and all to come down and have food and fun with us to celebrate our 95th anniversary. Come between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and enjoy prizes and jazz music, as well food from an In-N-Out truck that’s catering the whole event. But that’s not all, Reynolds is proud to be able to feature not one, but TWO amazing classic Buicks at the open house, each with a long and detailed history.

The first is a 1965 Buick GS that has been completely restored by Jack Mancini, a Buick historian and car buff out of Rhode Island and a friend to the Reynolds family. Mancini has been meticulously researching the exact specifications of the 1965 Buick GS driven by Lennie “Pop” Kennedy and sponsored by Reynolds Buick GMC in the sixties in order to re-create the vehicle down to the last detail.

Jack Mancini restoration
Remember, we said we’re featuring another classic Buick as well? This second Buick is being brought from Wisconsin because of its significance to the Reynolds family. While the car we mentioned above is a tribute to the original that was driven by Pop Kennedy, this Buick actually WAS driven by Kennedy himself, and made the quarter mile run in 10.89 seconds at 126.85 mph! This 1970 Buick GS 455, now owned by Guy Parquette, was once owned by Pete Reynolds. Pete Reynolds was once the proprietor of Reynolds Buick GMC, which is now owned and operated by his son, Don Reynolds.

So remember, be sure to come to Reynolds Buick GMC on October 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for delicious food, great music, outstanding prizes, and the chance to get to see two rare and classic Buicks on our 95th anniversary.

NADA Guides recently presented the award for September 2010’s "Car of the Month" to the 2011 Buick Regal. The Regal was given this award due to its innovative technology, increased power, and MPG. Not only that, this vehicle redefines the already prestigious Buick brand.

The features on the 2011 Buick Regal are numerous, each providing functionality and luxury. With regards to safety, the Regal utilizes StabiliTrack with Traction Control, plus Anti-Lock Brakes with Brake Assist, ensuring the vehicle has full control and complete stability in all road conditions. Buick Reinvented: The 2011 Buick Regal

Much buzz has been going on about the new 2011 Buick Regal, General Motors’ newest addition to its Buick line-up. Though the Buick brand has long been thought of as a sedan your grandfather would drive, the 2011 Regal is set to bring back Buick to the mainstream. The 2011 Buick Regal is a mid-sized sedan with an ample 37.3 inches of rear legroom, and 14 cubic-feet of trunk space, perfect for an executive who is a weekend golfer.
What sets the Buick Regal apart from the Honda Accord, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat, and the Chevy Malibu is its luxurious interior and its elegant finish. It has more soft-touch plastic surfaces, satin-metal door pulls, and piano-black trim than the competition.
A 2.4-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that produces 182 hp and has a torque of 172 lb-ft powers the GM’s 2011 Buick Regal. Also available as an option is a turbocharged 2.0-liter in-line four, producing 220 hp and 258 lb-ft torque. Both engines feature direct-injection and are paired with standard six-speed automatic transmissions with manumatic shifting. The turbocharged engine also comes with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission.
The 2011 Buick Regal has a MacPherson-strut front and multilink rear suspension, with aluminum lower control arms all around. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard, with an option to upgrade to 19s.
The Regal has a wheelbase of 107.8 inches, a length of 190.2 inches, 73.1 inches wide, and a height of 58.4 inches. The manufacturer’s estimated weight is 3600 lb.
Based on reviews, the 2011 Buick Regal is a pleasant drive. It boasts of stability and comfort, taking away the “floaty boat” feel of its predecessors. The 2011 Buick Regal is climbing up the luxury sedan category, in terms of its looks and class-competitive performance.
Once thought of by some as a brand that had long been forgotten and ignored, this mid-sized sedan is doing its best to change that perception. In fact, the 2011 Buick Regal is handsome and hip, bringing the brand back into the spotlight.

GMC Granite Given the Green Light.

As a result of all the hype that was surrounding the Buick Regal GS Concept at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, the GMC Granite has managed to fly relatively under the radar. During its time there, however, it did receive a very warm reception from both the public and the media, and as a result, General Motors has green lighted the production of the vehicle. While we can’t say for sure how the final model that rolls off the assembly line will look, we’re speculating that it’s going to look, for the most part, much like the concept version.

Compared to most other concept cars that hit auto show floors, the GMC Granite actually has a relatively subdued look, with body lines and curves that we could realistically expect to see on a production model. Though it features a few unconventional pieces, such as suicide-style rear doors and almost unwieldy large wheels, the rest of the car appears to be relatively standard GMC fare, albeit with a more modern and contemporary twist.

It’s also likely that the production model will feature the same 1.4 liter, turbocharged motor that’s also used on the concept version of the car. Chances are that the motor, adequately powered (especially for its small size, thanks to the turbocharger), will be mated to a dual-clutch six speed transmission for quick and precise up and down shifts.

Though we don’t know much else about the model at this moment, it’s fairly safe to say that we can probably expect to hear an announcement from GM sometime soon.

Some Industry News.

While General Motors in general showed strong growth over the course of the last month, we’re happy to report that sales of the same Buick and GMC once again led the way. Buick once again led the way with a remarkable 52.69% increase in sales over June 2009, while GMC followed closely behind with a 45% improvement.

Buick’s numbers were, in large part, a result of the overwhelmingly positive response to the 2010 LaCrosse. The LaCrosse alone was responsible for nearly 5,400 sales, although the Enclave followed closely behind with a total of 4,561 units sold. The Lucerne and Regal rounded out the lineup, with figures of 2,875 and 321 respectively.
Comparatively, GMC’s sales were led by the Sierra, with a total of 11,441 trucks being sold to consumers during June. GMC’s strong numbers were also augmented by the Acadia, with 5,862 units being moved, as well as the Terrain, with 4,603 units being moved.

Overall, these numbers underscore what has been a trend not just with General Motors as a whole, but with the Buick and GMC brands respectively. As we’ve noted in the past, much about the culture of the companies has been rebuilt from the ground up, and that change in philosophy has been reflected in the quality and success each brand is now experiencing.

So, for those of you who have yet to see the strides that Buick and GMC have made for yourself, we’re looking forward to you dropping by our lot and having a look at the new models sometime soon!

Testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife

Let’s be honest: The closest most of us are ever going to get to the Nurburgring Nordschleife is playing Gran Turismo on our Playstations. Although that’s an unfortunate truth that many car enthusiasts will have to reconcile, there’s still some solace to be found in the fact that there are a select few cars on our shores that have proven their worth on Germany’s famed racetrack. And, we’re proud to say, we can count the new 2011 Buick Regal among them.

That one would be surprised to hear that a Buick has made its rounds along the Nordcschleife’s 73 turns would be understandable. Although Buick has a long racing history marked by high performance cars, most recently the GNX, the brand has spent the better part of the last two decades building a reputation based more on comfort and convenience than high-revving engines and screeching tires.

While we’re more likely to find our 2011 Buick Regals quietly traversing the streets of West Covina, at legal driving speeds of course, any gearhead will tell you that there’s something to be said for knowing your car has the ability to scream around sharp corners. Should the need arise, of course. But even with all of its under-the-hood performance, the Regal still maintains the distinctive touch of class that its sister models, such as the LaCrosse and the Enclave, share with one another. It’s not often you’ll come across a vehicle that strikes a balance between power and luxury the way this car does.

Although no official lap time was recorded for the Regal, we did hear that the Opel Insignia it’s based off of managed to crack the 8:35 minute mark. Just something to think about.

The 2011 GMC Sierra HD

It’s no secret that the GMC brand has long been synonymous with power and durability. Unlike the trucks produced by other manufacturers, the GMC Sierra has produced an exemplary track record of serving as a not just a vehicle, but more importantly, as a tool for construction and towing. Given that, it should come as no surprise that the GMC Sierra is set to continue to dominate the competitive, heavy-duty segment of the pickup truck market.

Although the 2011 Sierra is, physically, nearly identical to previous year models, a closer look at its internal components show a considerable amount of progress behind its engineering. The Sierra 2500 HD features a completely new frame, marked by a number of improvements to its suspension. Furthermore, the truck also now features a new optional diesel engine with an advanced exhaust breaking system, in addition to various new electronics designed to aid in component management and driving.

Perhaps the pinnacle of refinements made to the 2011 Sierra, however, is perhaps the new Denali trim that’s been added for the upcoming model year. Available only as a crew cab with the 4wd option, the Sierra Denali features a plethora of new options including rear parking sensors, a Bose stereo, heated leather seats, and the trademark Denali chrome grill.

Powering the vehicle are motor options of a 6.0 liter V8 producing 360 horsepower and 380 lb/ft. of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. For those who need more towing capabilities, however, there also is the 6.6 liter turbocharged V8 with an output of 397 horsepower, and a ridiculous 765 lb/ft. or torque, more than enough to get what you need to where you need it.

These upgrades to what was already a more than solid platform should only help further secure the GMC Sierra’s place at the top of the HD truck pyramid.

Buick's Moment of Truth

As we noted in our previous post, much of Buick’s current success can be attributed to the complete overhaul in both construction quality and design philosophy. As a testament to how strongly the Buick brand believes in the caliber of the vehicles it produces, the company is launching a new social media campaign that will allow you, the consumer, to voice your opinion on every aspect of its vehicles, both good and bad. It’s fitting then, that the new campaign is titled simple, “Buick’s Moment of Truth.”

It likely goes without saying that, despite almost unanimous praise from the auto industry as of late, the Buick nameplate itself still remains somewhat problematic, especially as discussed by consumers. Although the brand has long been synonymous with American built luxury and class, it’s pretty evident that there are a number of people with dissenting opinions. What Buick (and we, as a dealership proud to sell its vehicles) is hoping is that, in an age where public opinion has largely and understandably turned on large corporate entities who are all too willing to sacrifice what’s best for their customers just to make an extra dollar or two, this transparency will show that Buick has absolutely nothing to hide.

That said, we’d fully encourage our customers to leave their opinions of our vehicles on Buick’s Moment of Truth site once it launches. As you’ve likely experienced, we here at Reynolds Buick GMC go out of our way to make sure you leave our lot with not just a great car, but great customer service and the distinct impression that you’re part of our family. And, while we take care to put effort into ensuring that you drive off 100% satisfied, our efforts are just as much an extension of the brand philosophy behind Buick.

We’ll keep you posted on the site’s progress, and let you know when it launches.

New Blog New Regal

Welcome to the Reynolds Buick GMC blog! Given all the changes that have occurred with both the Buick and GMC brands over the course of the past year or so, from the overwhelming success of the LaCrosse to the introduction of the Terrain, we thought it would be appropriate to keep you updated the latest news and information about our family of cars, trucks, and SUVs. Accordingly, we find it fitting that the start of our blog parallels the introduction of the all new 2011 Buick Regal to the United States.

As one of Buick’s more anticipated offerings in recent memory, interest in the 2011 Buick Regal has been decidedly high since its announcement. The return of the nameplate, after a notably long seven-year hiatus, has been met with an overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic reaction for the model. Based on the successful European market Opel Insignia, the American edition of the Regal sports a four cylinder, 2.4 liter Ecotec engine, which is rated at a more than respectable 182 horsepower, with a turbo 2.0 liter Ecotec version set to make its debut later in the year.

Though it admittedly wouldn’t be expected of the typical Buick, every aspect of the 2011 Regal’s performance has been honed and tested on the asphalt surfaces of Germany’s famed Nurburgring, something more commonly associated with performance brands such as Porsche, Ferrari, or even BMW. That’s not to say that Buick doesn’t have a tradition of enthusiast inclined cars (the GNX of the late 80s and Regal GSE of the late 90s being two prominent examples), but even we’d have to admit that there’s been a marked lack of them for some time. However, it’s clear that the Regal is more than equipped to change that perception, which it’s already begun to do.

The first American Regal has already found its way off the dealership lot and into a garage, purchased less than 24 hours after its arrival, signifying that the interest that’s been shown in the model is more than just lip service. While we’re hopeful that the trend continues as our own shipment of the 2011 Buick Regal arrives on our lot, the way things have been going, it seems as if the excitement for the car is taking care of itself. Still, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t tell you to make a note of stopping by Reynolds Buick GMC to see the all new Regal for yourself.
